Eagle Scout Participation in It's My Park Day

Pic1 Pic2

seed balls

From Eagle Scout Matthew Dorn:

On the October 25 It's My Park Day, it was my great pleasure to lead the community in planting wildflowers in two large areas along the Northaven Trail.  Altogether, more than thirty volunteers distributed 36,000 seed balls over 72,000 square feet.  A seed ball is a mixture of compost, clay, and wildflower seed.  With the help of my fellow scouts, I made these seed balls the week before the event.

This project would not have happened without the invaluable leadership of Dr. Lisa Umholtz and the Friends of the Northaven Trail Board.  In addition, I appreciate the Parks and Recreation Department of Dallas, which assured that the planting areas will not be mowed.  So, be sure to look for beautiful wildflowers on the trail next spring when you bike, walk, or run!

-Matthew Dorn, BSA Troop 125

Demolition started today on a paver replacement program. The trail will be under construction this week in the paver pod areas east of Hillcrest and south of the JCC. New engraving should be completed by mid-November, with the engraving text being identical to existing pavers. We will update everyone regarding a timeline for paver pod replacement west of Edgemere.
