What Can and Can’t Be Driven on the Northaven Trail?

The Northaven Trail is designed for safe, shared use by pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized travelers. To protect trail users and preserve the environment, certain types of vehicles are permitted while others are strictly prohibited.


Northaven Trail Vehicular Guidelines

✅ Allowed on the Trail

These personal mobility options are welcome on the Northaven Trail:

  • 🚲 Bicycles & E-Bikes

    E-bikes are allowed as long as they can be powered solely by pedaling (Class 1 and Class 3 electric bikes). Riders must follow posted speed limits and yield to pedestrians.

  • 🛼 Skateboards, Rollerblades & Skates

    Human-powered and electric-assisted boards/skates are welcome. Please ride courteously and control your speed around others.

  • 🛴 Scooters & E-Scooters

    Both kick scooters and low-speed electric scooters are permitted. Please ride single file and watch for pedestrians.

🚫 Not Allowed on the Trail

To protect trail users and preserve the nature of the trail, the following vehicles are prohibited:

  • Golf Carts

  • Cars, Trucks, and Vans

  • Motorcycles and Electric Motorcycles

  • All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) or Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs)

These motorized vehicles are not designed for trail use and present a safety hazard to pedestrians and cyclists.


Note: The speed limit on the Northaven Trail is 10 mph. Please slow down when approaching pedestrians, curves, intersections, or crowded areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, all mobility devices for individuals with disabilities are permitted.

    • Class 1: Pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph.

    • Class 3: Pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and a maximum assisted speed of 28 mph.

    NOTE: despite the higher assisted speed of Class 1 and Class 3 e-bikes, riders must adhere to the trail’s 10 mph speed limit.
